5/5 Star Review on Google - Sylvia is a gem amongst dog trainers. Personally she helped me with my sweet girl Lexi. Lexi (my dog) has always been my heart and soul. With Sylvia's insights and assistance Lexi and I were both able to enjoy some wonderful times together. Im convinced Sylvia's wisdom and compassion even helped to extend my sweet girls life and I will be forever grateful. Sylvia is one in a million and I highly recommend her. Our dogs are an integral part of our lives and Sylvia can be trusted to help make both you and your pets relationship the best it can possibly be.

Hi Sylvia,
Cora, myself, and of course Freddie, just wanted to thank you and Jenny for a wonderful class and of course the tasty treats (Freddie went bonkers for his!). Also please pass on our best wishes to Jenny for a healthy and speedy recovery. We love your approach to training and really learned so much as well as had a lot of fun. We will keep checking on your site for upcoming classes...very beneficial for all of us as well as reinforcing good habits for PWD Water Trial. I have attached a video of Freddie for you doing a basic retrieve - for water trial the bumper must be delivered to hand, which Freddie is now doing. He is also retrieving the float line to hand and the next stage will be in Spring time when we get him in the water doing the same thing. It is so special seeing these dogs doing what they are meant to do...they sometimes yelp with delight when working!
Take care Sylvia and we hope you and your family have a wonderful festive season.
Please feel free to share the email for your testimonials Sylvia... you guys were awesome and as I said we really believe that your methods are the best and kindest way to go regarding dog training.....and they also work!

5/5 Star Review on Google - Inquired about dog training, and she called me back immediately. Took 20 minutes to speak about my dog, and what’s best for his training based off of his behaviour. She was super thorough, very kind and extended her knowledge to help provide the best training for him. This company has proven to care about animals, and based off of their training they are positive training.

5/5 Star Review on Google - Absolutely worth the money. We missed the puppy class so took the level 1 dog class with our 5 month old Bernese. It was a great experience. Very kind and knowledgeable instructor, good class size and a very useful reference book. You definitely learn the right tools to properly train your dog and correct them when they have set backs. I highly recommend them!

Thank you, Sylvia!
Thank you so much for your patient instruction, your enthusiastic encouragement and your faith in our pups. I really value the stories and insight you shared at our sessions with you. Little Bear will have a better chance at living her best life because we trained with you. That’s amazing! Thank you for the treats at the end, too! Bear loves the pumpkin hearts!
We hope you have a restful, fun holiday season. And we hope to see you in the New Year!
Kindly,

Recommendation/Review on Facebook - We highly recommend Delightful Dogs! The puppy training classes we attended with our puppy, Bailey, were excellent. Sylvia is delightful to deal with! She is very knowledgeable, experienced, and passionate about what she does. She is truly wonderful with the dogs. She really wants to see every one of the dogs and owners succeed. Thank you Sylvia, we will be back for the next level (Bailey misses you !!).

Recommendation/Review on Facebook - Thirteen years ago our puppy “Sally” and I registered for puppy training with Sylivia. We both enjoyed the experience. We had fun. Sadly Sally died a week ago but for over thirteen years she was the best behaved, obedient and happy dog. I believe Sylvia had a lot to do with that. When we are ready to adopt another dog, I will certainly be enrolling us with Delightful Dogs again.

5/5 Star Review on Google - Sylvia is such a passionate and patient trainer. She really knows her stuff and continues during and after the sessions are completed to ensure you have all the information you need. I emailed her about an issue i was having with my beagle after the classes (if you're a beagle owner you know) and she responded with so much information, links to reputable articles, videos and references and was genuinely trying to help us with our issue. The classes themselves (Level One Adult) were very informative and set up your dog for success from the start. You're also left with a VERY handy manual afterwards (to reference anything from digging, barking, time outs etc and all backed up with articles) During the courses you are given commands/maneuvers to practice during class, but you really have to commit to taking it home and working on it with them. We're VERY happy with our beagles training. He isn't an angel yet (Syliva can't fix all your problems) but she gives you the tools you need to take home for the duration your dog needs to click and understand it. Plus he beat the odds, and graduated! (He may have also enjoyed all the snacks that came with it)

5/5 Star Review on Google - Sylvia is amazing! This is my second time completing dog training with her. My first dog didn't have any training when we got her. She was 10 months old and Sylvia really taught me and my family the tools for us to train with to have a wonderful dog. This is the reason we went back with our puppy. She believes in teaching the dog what we want them to do with positive reinforcement. We as owners need to teach our dogs the behaviour we want with rewards, love and encouragement NOT with punishment. She is amazing with rescues and is a true animal lover.

5/5 Star Review on Google - We took our puppy Millie to level one training not knowing what to expect and were absolutely blown away but how much knowledge Sylvia has. She teaches owners how to train their dogs in a humane and effective manner. I have to say that puppy school was my absolute favorite part of the week for the 6 weeks of the program. The only complaint I could possibly have was that I got jealous about how much my puppy absolutely loved Sylvia. But seriously, this is a wonderful place run by great people.

I’m sorry I left yesterday without saying goodbye. You were very busy with everyone and I did not want to interrupt. However I do want to tell you how much I enjoyed the course. Odie is a different dog. And I am a better caretaker. I’m so glad we started early and are making the right imprints on him now. I know the class was more about teaching me then teaching him. I owe you a big hug the next time I see you....And perhaps some chocolate.

5/5 Star Review on Facebook - We attended puppy level one class with our puppy Odin and had terrific results. Not only do we feel confident with the obedience training aspect, but the socialization with other dogs has really helped our boy come out of his shell! 5/5 Star Review on Facebook - I should have sent in this review around 9 years ago! With Roxy passing recently at almost 10 years old I remember taking her to Sylvia's when she was a puppy! I remember thinking there was something wrong with my Rottweiler, but I realized after talking to Sylvia I had no idea what I was doing. Sylvia was only a phone call away the entire time. Without these positive training classes I wouldn't have had such an amazing bond with Roxy for her entire life. Can't thank you enough for educating me and helping me raise my best friend.

Hi Sylvia
Just wanted to thank you and your staff for such a great class these past six weeks. We learned a lot from you, especially about food and treats. We had fun and learned so much. We will continue to recommend you to friends, family, or anyone who needs puppy classes or behaviour problems. I liked that you are as passionate about your dogs and how they are treated as I am. Thanks again for such a great experience.
Sincerely,

Hi Sylvia,
We just wanted to reach out and say a huge THANK YOU for such a marvellous puppy level one experience!! Edie is much better behaved than we expected her to be by this age. It's been a real pleasure seeing how her mind works and how she learns.
Thanks,

Hi Sylvia ,
Just wanted to let you know we got Remi's certificate in the mail. Thank you!! We also wanted to show you this photo.
(see picture on the Level 2 page of them doing an excellent walk in heel)
All of your education in class has helped us and this boy so much. Everyone tells us we have a very calm, quiet pointer. I like to give myself a pat on the back for that because it's a lot of work! But so worth it! He is such a good boy.
We so appreciate all of your truly genuine work in this field, not only have you helped us train Remi but you have helped educate us so much!!! You play a big role in helping us keep sane in his first six months and were so thankful for that! Your heart is so big and we are so glad we came to Delightful Dogs :)

5/5 Star Review on Facebook - Sylvia is a terrific trainer. I used her when I first got my dog Dakota almost 9 years ago and I loved her style of teaching.
Very knowledgeable, kind and there's no question how much she loves the dogs she works with.
Now that I own my own dog care business, I constantly refer clients to Sylvia who ask me for a positive based trainer that I trust. I'm never surprised when they tell me how happy they are with my recommendation.
Thanks Sylvia!

5/5 Star Review on Facebook - We have attended training with Sylvia including Puppy Level One, Level Two and Tricks 4 Fun with our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Sadie. The passion and dedication to her work that Sylvia has is unparallelled and truly what all in this field should strive towards. Her patience towards both dog and owner(s), supportive attitude and outgoing personality push each and every individual and dog towards success that attend her classes. We are very thankful we took Sadie to "Auntie Sylvia" - we don't know where we'd be at behaviour-wise with Sadie without her. She makes herself available for any question even unrelated to training and truly cares about the work she does. Thank you Sylvia for being "you" and doing such a good job :)

5/5 Star Review on Facebook - I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into with a new puppy and 2 toddlers at home, but Sylvia helped Skye succeed through her puppy class and now I can trust her not to jump on my little guys and I know she will come when called. Thank you! These classes were the best and we will be coming back to learn more :)

5/5 Star Review on Facebook - Sylvia, I was impressed with you and your training methods from the first time we spoke on the phone. Within minutes of being in your Level 1 class, I knew we were in the right place. Since that time, you have continued to exceed my hopes for a trainer. Your love for all our dogs, your philosophy and approach, and your integrity are among the reasons I keep coming back. Thank you for being such an amazing role model for me and my girls, for laughing with us, and for guiding us through the challenges along the way.

5/5 Star Review on Facebook - Been meaning to do this for a while now. Our Bullmastiff Maybel and ourselves worked with Sylvia from the moment Maybel came into our lives at 11weeks old. We completed all the obedience levels and continued on with the Therapy Dog course Sylvia also offers. The benefit we gained from all the instruction, tips, hints, suggestions, support, understanding of the breed and us humans, was immensely effective and appreciated. Maybel has worked at a local retirement home last winter and we are about to head into our second term at the same location. We take Maybel with us pretty much everywhere we go. Her socialization skills and seeing the joy so many people get from her, make us grateful everyday that we embarked on the training and enlightenment that Sylvia offers. Maybel is now just over two years old and over 135lbs, We continue and will always continue to work all the methods that Sylvia provided us, keeping our living/working relationship with Maybel ongoing and incredibly enjoyable. A well socialized, obedient, confident dog brings us and all those around us, so much joy and we are eternally grateful to Sylvia for providing us the tools to make it happen.

5/5 Star Review on Facebook - Truly the best training around. Sylvia knows dogs, she knows people, and yes she loves them both. Ziggy and I have greatly benefited from the guidance and expertise provided during our classes at Delightful Dogs Training. Sylvia's patience and unconditional support has been so very valuable and appreciated during Ziggy's training sessions while we worked on his desensitization, social skills, reactivity and various challenges that Ziggy and I cope with each day. We cannot begin to express our appreciation for Sylvia's non judgemental, 100% supportive, caring and patient efforts to assist us in helping Ziggy overcome his fears and helping me learn how to better help him.

5/5 Star Review on Facebook - Just finished puppy training with Sylvia tonight! I am so glad we decided to bring Memphis to Bloomingdale, definitely worth the trip. Ziggy and I would like to send you the biggest hug today! I cannot express how "delightful" it is to work with you in class, and how appreciative I am for all that you do above and beyond to help us achieve success in each and every challenge that Ziggy faces.
When we hit a roadblock, you are there for us to think outside the box and find a new solution and way to approach the problem and troubleshoot and brainstorm until we found what worked for Ziggy.
Sometimes, as devoted and loving as we are as pet owners, we don't have all of the answers and get frustrated and stumped by things, and there you are, ready to try a new approach, look at it from a different angle and yet again help us to achieve success.
It's a very long road we have, and so absolutely wonderful to have you along for the journey by our sides.

My name is Sammy and I am a fun loving, rambunctious, talkative Labradoodle. When I first met Sylvia I fell in love; she called me "Lover-Boy"! Sylvia is very caring, patient, positive, fun and firm. All that, plus she really knows her stuff about training all kinds of dogs - smart crazy pups like me, timid shy dogs, anxious fur balls and even big goofy ones that smile lots. You see she learned from many of the best, has a million awards and follows a humane approach - to never punish a dog if they don't know but to teach them instead.
My mom looked forward to coming to each class and Sylvia helped her big time! Mom was really uncertain how to get me to listen while not curbing my curious, playful personality. Sylvia taught her how ... I am happy and proud as I have passed Level Two!
Sylvia holds many workshops and seminars too. Next mom will attend "Body Language, Stress and Calming Signals" then she'll really be able to read my cues and the behaviours of all my doggie friends!
Delightful Dogs is the best!

"Sylvia is a treat to work with. She has trained us to train more than one dog: Our Husky mix: From Basic to Therapy Dog and Activi-Joring; and our Mastiff: Only Level One because his show career, and family expansion got in the way. Despite the occasional hiccup during training (dog personalities, dogs sleeping through class), she aided us at every turn.
The results speak for themselves: Both dogs are very obedient and perfectly behaved. Our Husky was able to complete CGN Certification, and our Mastiff is not far behind! Our Mastiff has been featured in news print in Toronto to fight BSL. At the same event was surrounded by a crowd of people when a man asked if his 3 month old infant could pose with the dog. To the amazement of the crowd: The 190lb dog sat up, tenderly kissed the infant on the hand, then the cheek. Then posed for the photo.
We are planning a second Mastiff, and would not consider anyone else to train that puppy!"

Sylvia, the Emergency Canine First-Aid seminar was so informative and taught me everything I was hoping to learn as a dog owner and as someone who works with dogs on a daily basis. I feel so much more confident if ever I'm in a situation where first-aid is required.
I know how to bandage a dog and what to keep in my canine first-aid kit. I feel better about taking care of my dogs at home in regards to things like diarrhea or allergies for example, and when to know if its time to go to the vet.
I especially liked learning about canine CPR. Its something I've always wanted to learn and knowing what to do makes me feel so much better in case something like that ever needs to happen.
Thanks so much for such great information!!!!!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise in the Puppy Level One Training class. The socialization was particularly helpful for Margaret. I feel like she really began to open up and feel comfortable by the end of the class. She and I will continue to practice the exercises you taught us. I appreciate that because of Margaret’s size you assured her individual needs and safety were addressed.
After we got home Thursday evening, Margaret carried around the little sunshine toy you gave her as she followed me from room to room. She obviously likes it. I’m making liver cake for her this weekend to help in our training sessions.
Attached is a picture of Margaret a friend recently took of her. I thought you might enjoy it. The two of us will see the two of you on Tuesday evening.

Sylvia is a wonderful TRAINER @ "Delightful Dogs"! She makes each class fun & interesting. Most importantly, Sylvia is very patient teaching not only the rambunctious "Fur-Kids", but also the stressed-out, weary "humans"! My nickname for Sylvia is "Doggy Magnet" because she can teach even the most unruly puppy new "tricks"! I highly recommend taking your dog, any age to "Delightful Dogs" to be trained by Sylvia.

Dear Sylvia,
You are my Star!! Thank you so much for every lesson you have given to my parents. Thank you for all the words of encouragement for me and all your happiness at every little progress I had made. I know within time and lots and lots and lost of love from my parents, shortly I will become the most lovable dog on this world. I wish you and your future "students" lots of happiness and all the best. Hope to see you soon.

Having had dogs in the past I thought I knew all the basic tricks and tips to give my dog the standard training. That was until Gaia came home to us. Having a puppy is no easy task and I was lost pretty quickly with her.. so I started looking for a trainer. Having gone through the big box store’s training program I knew it wasn’t a good fit for us and made me distrustful of other trainers. Cautiously I started calling up trainers in the area, none eased that discomfort – until I came across Delightful Dogs phone number.
Sylvia gave an amazing first impression. She was professional, personable and seemed to know what she was talking about. Unlike other trainers I had spoken with she gave me an hour of her time to talk over my concerns, what I wanted and went into detail of her training methods. I recall getting off the phone, turning to my partner and saying ‘we’re signing up’. Not long later Gaia and I attended Level One for Puppies. It was a fantastic course. The first thing that impressed me was how concerned Sylvia was about reading the dogs body language in the class. She was mindful of the personalities about the dogs and explained to the owners how to read them as well. She was patient but kept the class moving along at great pace. My little family fell in love with her. Gaia was excited when we pulled into the parking lot and came out of her shy shell she had. She was everything I could have hoped for and more. Sylvia didn’t plunk us down in class and get us to robotically go through the movements. She taught us how to teach our dogs ourselves. More than anything she gave us the tools so we could use the behaviours she was teaching us about in a logical way when we needed them instead of just in a certain setting. Sylvia trained us on how to act which we could transfer down to our dogs. It’s fantastic.
To me, more important than how amazing the classes are is how great Sylvia’s support is. Goodness knows I would call Sylvia almost weekly with a question, with an update, with a concern. She would also call me back promptly and helped give me the tools to deal with whatever I was experiencing. The outside class support is what sold me, as classes came to a close we couldn’t bare the idea of not having Sylvia around. We signed up for Level Two classes, have plans for Gaia to go through Level Three and we’re hoping to bring our older dog to Sylvia for Therapy Dog Training.
In summary, Sylvia and Delightful dogs is amazing. She’s caring and attentative unlike a lot of other trainers and schools out there and it would be a mistake to not try her classes. My puppy is five months old and I get countless compliments on how well behaved she is; I am proud to inform them Delightful Dogs is the place to be. I guarantee you’ll fall in love with her as we did.

Hi Sylvia,
I really enjoyed your recent seminar “Canine Body Language, Stress and Calming Signals.” Since I began working with dogs five-and-a-half years ago I have read books about dogs, took a kennel attendant course, etc., and felt that I new a fair bit about body language and behaviour.
I learned so much more after taking your seminar and I feel much better equipped in dealing with my own dog as well the doggie friends I help take care of. I never stop learning from you. I was so exited at the end of the seminar. Thank you so much for helping me with my continued learning!

Sylvia is the best positive reinforcement trainer out there! She really cares about her dog and human clients. We learned so much and Sylvia is always available to help us when needed. She is a fantastic groomer also and we wouldn't go anywhere else!

Hi Sylvia!
Thank you for all your help with Lily. She's doing great, and starting to calm down (a little).
You'll be happy to know we are keeping up with training, and shes even getting better at on leash walking. She gets a lot of exercise, but I think her energy comes in spurts. She is hyper, but doesn't seem to have a lot of endurance... is that her breed? We haven't quite learnt "shush" yet, but she's stopped complaining in her kennel and quiets her whining if i do "shush" her. Its kind of funny... when she's "shushed" she switches to a whispered whine.
To be honest, I don't feel like your puppy classes train the puppy. Rather, I felt like I was the one learning/ being trained. When you handed my the "1st Place" ribbon and Lily's certificate, it felt like I was the one being rewarded. This Isn't a criticism, I think that is a good thing. A dog is a dog, but I think people need to learn how to communicate with them and to understand them. You really helped with that.
Anyways, I hope everything is going well! Thanks again.
I'm also happy to give references for you any time! Your classes helped us a lot, and I'm happy to share that with anyone. I drove from Guelph to your puppy school, and it was worth the drive.

My name is Patti and I am the proud owner of two shelties, Spencer and Kacee. They are your typical sheltie for the most part, but they are very reserved and nervous around strangers and strange situations. I needed to find a trainer who had classes that were geared towards them and where they would feel comfortable.
I found Delightful Dogs through an open house and when I met Sylvia, I knew my puppers would be fine in her classes. Through patience and a lot guidance, not only did Spencer develop confidence in Sylvia's Level II class, he graduated with the highest score in his class. I was so surprised and happy for him, but we could not of done it without Sylvia. Kacee also attended a different Level II class with Sylvia and she too, excelled under Sylvia's guidance and while she did not finish with the highest marks, she finished in the top part of her class....which is quite an achievement. I should also add, Sylvia did a great job training me too!!!
Spencer and Kacee are two shelties who are very shy and reserved around strange people and situations and I needed to find a groomer who had the knowledge, skill and patience to work with my shelties and I needed to also trust this person. Like most people, it is always nerve-racking taking your furkids to a new groomer for the first time. While Sylvia was not new to me or the dogs (she was their trainer) she had never groomed them before. I know that they were in great hands was comforting, but boy was I surprised when I went to pick them up.
Not only did the puppers look absolutely amazing, they were happy and had all the room they needed to wander. When I went to pay, I was given a report on each dog about areas of concern, the good things and what exactly Sylvia had to do.....I never had a groomer do that before. To top it all off, she never over books and she takes all the time she needs to be sure my puppers are happy and stress-free.
The one thing that always puts a smile on my face is the day my dad picked up Spencer and Kacee from Sylvia's and said that when he was knocking at the door, Sylvia could not hear him because she was talking to the dogs.......Sylvia loves all her fur-clients as if they were her own. I would not take my two shelties to anyone else. Thank you Sylvia, you truly are the best and we owe you.

We just wanted to thank you very much for helping us with Sadie. Your leadership has been beneficial to both us and her- she is a great puppy and will grow to be a beautiful dog!
Kelsey Barton & Sadie (Swiss Mountain Dog)
I just want to say thank you so much for all that you have done for me and my dog. You are an amazing trainer and groomer that truly cares about the well-being of dogs. The wealth of knowledge was amazing. I have never experienced someone who truly cares and understands dogs the way you do. You are very easy to talk to and always make us feel motivated to learn more and become the best dog owner possible.
Thank you again. I will be recommending you to everyone I meet that has a dog.

Hi Sylvia!
I thought I'd just write you a quick letter to say thank you for taking Dakota and I through all three levels of obedience. We had so much fun learning everything. I'm able to communicate with her so effectively which means we always have a positive relationship. I've had a dog my entire life, but I've never had one that's been trained. After taking your classes, I'd never have another dog that wasn't trained properly. The things we learned were easy, but so effective. Beyond having a well trained dog who is welcomed anywhere I go, our bond is that much stronger just from having worked together so much. If there's anyone who's thinking about taking your courses and has any hesitation, there is absolutely no reason not to. You're dog will love you for it, and you'll learn to love your dog in a whole new way.
I've contacted Jessica Croezen about taking the tricks class she teaches. I think that would be really fun to do with Dakota and I always like to brag how awesome my dog is in front of my friends, especially to those that have dogs of their own. I'm going to talk to my manager at the group home where I work, to see if taking Dakota through the therapy dog training program you teach would allow me to bring her into work with me. I've brought her in a few times and as crazy as she can be in class, she knows to calm right down when interacting with the residents. I work with mentally challenged adults and it's great to see them get so excited to see Dakota and she loves to be around them too. She gives everyone kisses and is really patient with their petting and all wanting her attention at the same time.
I know everyone says they have the best dog, but I think I got damn lucky with Dakota. For being a random farm dog I found while I was living in Alberta, she’s turned out to be one of the best things that have happened in my life. She's so calm around the house, but has such a fun spontaneous personality. She'll snuggle up beside me on the couch while I read a book and then be ready to go on an all day hike with me in an instant. She's incredibly loyal and so full of love, and I'm thankful each day that I get to spend with her. It was truly meant to be.
You’ve also inspired me to rethink my career path in life. I went to Conestoga College taking financial planning. I thought that working in a bank would make me money and therefore I'd be satisfied. After training with you and Dakota, I realize working with dogs and learning about their behaviour is what makes me happy. I've been talking a bit with Norma Jeanne Laurette through email about taking the Canine Communication Studies course, and strongly considering opening my own dog training business when I move back out west someday. I know that the idea of working with Dakota everyday and helping other people to better understand and communicate with their dogs, will be worth more than all the money in the world.
I've attached a few pictures of Dakota. Some are from when she was a puppy when I first brought her home at 4 months. The other two are of her at the pinery located just outside of Elmira and with her dog friends in BC: Larry & Mya.
I'd really like to get a second dog, not only for me but for Dakota since I know she loves other dogs so much. If two dogs can be twice as good as what Dakota and I have then I'm all for it! I’ll be sure to sign up for puppy level 1 when I do bring home Dakota’s new friend. I'm thinking probably in fall 2010 when Dakota is around two.
I'm going to be saving up some money so I can take the Canine Communication Studies course, and I'll be in contact with you again for some mentoring if possible. If there are any seminars or anything else you think I should be a part of that may be helpful to me, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I’d be happy to learn all that I can.
Once again thank you so much, both for the work with Dakota and inspiring me to make a major career change. Hope all is well where you are, and best of luck with everything!
Sincerely,
Greg & Dakota (Alaskan Malamute/Golden Retriever)
Sylvia Gottschalk recently groomed our Golden Retriever "Darby" and I am writing to commend the excellence and depth of her skills and knowledge. Not just her grooming skills which we were extremely happy with, but also her knowledge and understanding relative to canine behaviour--such as reading canine body language, etc.
Darby's grooming appointment was desperately needed because he had just undergone months of intensive and invasive treatment for a tumour on his face. He endured a CAT scan, several surgeries, 4 weeks with a jugular catheter in place, 18 rounds of daily radiation resulting in the 2nd worse skin reaction to radiation ever seen at the Ontario Vet. College. For 4 consecutive months, he was continuously poked, prodded and injected and had to wear an e-collar the whole time. At the hospital, his fur was shaved in various spots for surgeries, intravenous lines and the jugular catheter. Also, large sections were cut away by medical staff who could not clean him properly when he had a messy "accident "in his recovery cage. He was in delicate shape physically and mentally and he was a mess to look at.
Once his skin had healed, we had the go-ahead to bathe him. He is a therapy dog and we felt that getting him back into a regular routine would be beneficial to the healing process. We discussed his past several months with Sylvia in detail and she agreed to do the grooming. We were worried about how he would react to being handled/ touched by yet another person, with neither one of us being there with him. We did not know if he was at or near to the limit of what he was willing to put up with (and probably we had become over-protective of him during his treatments). But we put our faith in Sylvia knowing that if Darby suddenly decided enough was enough, she would know immediately.
All our worries were a waste of time. Darby literally "bounced" out of his one-on-one grooming session with Sylvia. Besides grooming him wonderfully, she played with him, held him and gave him lots of hugs.....she soothed his beleaguered soul, I'm sure. He looked terrific, smelled wonderful and his eyes sparkled again. He obviously enjoyed his afternoon at the "spa"!! Sylvia also provided us with a detailed written report on her observations and findings while grooming him. Because the medications were still affecting Darby's digestive system, Sylvia also did a special trim of the fur on the back of his hind legs (under his tail) to help him stay clean. That did the trick and Bob just LOVES the jaunty new "look" it gives Darby!
We are so lucky and grateful Sylvia added grooming to her "repertoire" because, very selfishly, it meant that she was there for us when we needed a groomer with a special skill set.
Thank you!
Carol, Bob Cooper and Darby (Golden Retriever)
Hi Sylvia!
I hope everything is going well for you and your fur-crew!
I just wanted to email you about something that happened to Stark and I this past week.
I live in an apartment building and there is a group of dog owners in my building that meet at a local school yard down the street from our home every night. We go there and let the dogs play off leash since it is enclosed by a fence. We also practice some training in the begining.
Well, the other day Stark and I, along with two Golden's and their owners were all playing. We (the humans.. haha) were throwing the balls while the dogs chased after them. They were listening extremely well and having a great time. It was wonderful.
About a half hour into our play session a new dog came running into the mix. We (our group) called our dogs to us just in case. They all came over until we saw the owners and then let the dogs say hello. They were all playing and having a good time when the 'new dog' saw that the gate was open (new set of owners did not secure it even when we asked if he did and it is about 4 soccer fields away from where we were) and took off out of the fenced area. The two Golden's went chasing after the 'new dog' through the gate, even with the owners calling them back.
Stark started to follow but I called him to me, and started running backwards in the opposite direction. He stopped, looked at his doggy friends and then turned towards me and ran at full speed right to me! I was so proud of him. He actually ran so fast and so hard that he had a hard time stopping and plowed into my legs.. haha. I leashed him and praised him and treated him like crazy.
The 'new dog' was found 4 blocks from where we were while the two Goldens stayed right outside the fence in the other section of the school. It was pretty scary. But I was super happy that Stark listened the second I called to him!
I was so happy and proud of my boy that I couldn't stop snuggling him all night! He got an extra couple of chicken necks that night.. haha.
We have been working super hard on our obedience as I would like to enter us into a trail this spring. I think he can do it, he is such a great little guy. He has really calmed down these past few weeks and his focus is getting better each and every day.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for everything. That scenerio could of ended up being extremely bad and I honestly don't want to think about what could of happened. I really am thankful to you and your classes and know that without them I am sure Stark would have followed the other dogs out of the secured area.
I thought I would include some photo's of "my beast" as he his starting to fill out now and WOW is he ever getting big.. haha.
Thanks again and I will hopefully see you in Jan. for OB3!
Liz and Stark (German Shepherd)
Hi Sylvia,
It's John Innanen calling, Prince's dad! Just thought I'd tell you, you know how good "stay" works.
We just came back from walking in the woods and so on and there was a path and Prince was ahead and a skunk jumped out in-between us.
Anyway, I told Prince to stay. Prince was very interested. He stood and watched and watched. The skunk was going for dual action he was trying to get both of us either way. Sooner or later there happened to be just fork in the path and so on, he went off his own way, I went over there Prince was still standing where he was supposed to be.
So you can tell that story if you want because "Stay" does work. Thank you very much and have a great day!
Take care!
John Innanen & Prince (Weimaraner)
Bentley here, you must remember me, the little white ball of energy that tried to go around your dogs! just wanted to say THANK YOU to you for training my mom (Pat). Since she went to class for puppy training level 1 (and brought me along for the ride), I am a calmer dog and listen to her (sometimes - can't let her think she won the battle - I want to go back to see you).
I'm still pretty cute (so mom says), and not fully trained, but I'm getting there. We practice every day. I still won't "sit & stay" for long (too many distractions and I am sooooooooooo curious) but what is it two-legged people say - practice makes perfect!!!
Anyway, I just wanted to drop you a line while mommy is busy with something else and the computer is free. Yes, I still have my spot under her monitor and under the living room table.
OH! yeah! I have to tell you, I'm starting to walk nicely beside my mom, every time I start pulling she goes the other way, what's up with that? I'm fully grown now and I'm all of 8 lbs and I found out that I have a voice. I bark at mom, my toys, my bone (not very loud - after all I'm a small fireball), and specially mom when I want to go out. Once in a while when I bark for nothing she puts her finger to her lips and says "SHUSH", I guess that means to use my inner voice, not my outside voice.
I attached a couple of pictures for you to remember me by.
Once again, Thank You Sylvia and see you soon.
Pat & Bentley (Bichon Frise/Maltese)
"Thank you! Thank you for not judging when I jump up and down. Thank you for praising when I mastered my "down". Thank you for loving us all the same and all that positive reinforcement when I dropped everything and came! Thanks you for understanding we're not all "Best in Show". However, we all can learn be it fast or slow.
We are Weimer's, Labes, Golden's & Dane's...
You never seem to care, you just treat us the same.
So paws up and cheers to you! Thank you for helping our owners learn "A Dog's Point of View."
Your grateful new friend, Abby Girl (Boxer/Mastiff x)
I think I speak for all of us when I say thank you to you Sylvia for all you have done for us and our 4 legged friends. It was wonderful at the walk-through Saturday and thank you for your genuine caring and kind words. Your programs (obedience, pet therapy) are some of the best...that's why I travel the distance I do to attend. Each week has offered something new and valuable not just while doing the pet therapy but also while out and about with our dogs. Thanks again Sylvia!

Hi Sylvia,
Thank you for all the great training and support with Maddy through Level 1and Level 2 ... We couldn't have made it this far without you and it has
made a world of difference!
Thanks again!

Nimbus finished his Level 1 training at Delightful Dogs on Oct. 30th and got 2nd place. Of course he got 1st place in my eyes. Nimbus is a quick learner with positive reinforcement and learns most things within 3 tries. He loved showing off in class. We have level 2 booked for January and look forward to the classes. Sylvia is absolutely wonderful and was quick to respond to any questions I had via email and the over the phone. Nimbus used to love digging and chewing on grass roots, but Sylvia helped us get him more interested in his digging hole, which he now runs to first thing even though it's covered in snow.
Sylvia also recommends to her classes, visits to "The Get Along Gang," a day of dog socialization (max 9 dogs) supervised by a certified positive reinforcement trainer. Nimbus has benefited greatly by the days he's spent there. He always comes back tired and has a great chance to meet a variety of other dogs, which we feel is important.

Hi Sylvia,
Sorry I had to rush out of there after our puppy class last night. My husband and kids were in the car. I was hesitant to drive given the weather conditions but my husband offered to take me which was great.
I just wanted to say thank you for a very positive experience. I really enjoyed the last six weeks and I think that Jackson has come a long way. Truth be told, I wasn't sure I would become as attached to Jackson as I was to my last dog, Colby. His sudden passing after only 5 years was devastating. But over the last couple of months since Jackson has joined
our family, I've become extremely attached to him and I think your classes helped that happen. I definitely plan to continue to work with him at home
and would really like to sign up for level two in the spring (once the lousy driving conditions are done).
It really means a lot that you want your "students" to keep in touch with you. It's rare to find someone who isn't only in it for the money. We will certainly keep in touch and let you know how Jackson is doing. You may even get an email now and then asking for advice (lucky you!) and hopefully
you'll be seeing us again.
Thanks again.
Sandy & Jackson (Golden Retriever)
In November of 2005 I adopted a dog from the Cambridge Humane Society. She came as a rescue from hurricane Katrina. At the time she was about 8 months old and I knew from the start she was for me. A very loving and gentle soul.
After a few weeks I was starting to feel overwhelmed about how to deal with some of her issues that were likely a result of her situation as well as never being trained. She was afraid of other dogs and didn't know about the outside world from being in a kennel for three months. She wasn't house trained very well, didn't know any commands, was afraid to go for a walk when she couldn't see her house and did not handle being alone. Even with all of this she was a very good girl who just wanted to be loved.
Sylvia came into my life when I needed her the most. Bella and I attended our first puppy class just before Christmas that same year and from there we did level one and two. Bella and I passed each level. Sylvia celebrated our successes and was always positive with her criticisms.
In Sylvia I found someone I could trust to guide us who had our best interests at heart. She always made the time to answer a-mails, return phone calls and took time after class when it was needed. She was really there for me and was so supportive and encouraging when there times I was feeling like nothing was working. She gladly shared her wealth of knowledge with me and helped me in my approach with Bella.
The respect and compassion she has for dogs and her commitment to their well being makes her an excellent teacher. From her I learned so much about how not only to train Bella but what makes her happy and content. She really cares about their welfare and how they feel. In class each one of us was special to Sylvia.
I am so grateful for experience Bella and I had with Sylvia.
Sincerely,
Debra Murphy
I thought I have seen and heard everything when it came to training but did I ever get my eyes open yesterday when I took Kya on a 8K walk around the Floradale dam. I came across a woman with a large boxer who trained the "baw method". I am not sure how to spell it but that is the way it sounded. I was proud of myself for keeping a straight face when watching her in action. I put Kya in a sit stay to talk to her and walked away from her. The woman tried to put her 2yr old in a sit stay but it would not keep it and that is when I heard her yell "BAW" at the top of her lungs. She said it was to mimic the mothers growl and she took classes from a man I believe lives in Elmira. When the baw did not work she then threw a bottle with something in it at him so as not to hit the dog but startle him. It still did not listen and it ran to Kya and was boxing her. I was a proud momma when Kya keep her sit stay and did not stand up so I said to the woman I will reward Kya for her excellent sit stay while your dog is on top of her. I did not ever think I would see the day Kya could keep a sit stay when a dog was at her that way. The woman grabbed her dog and keep yelling baw. I told her that I went to you and Sylvia and we use positive reinforcement. They do not use food at all. Well proof is in the pudding as they say and I could see her method does not work so I hope she could see from Kya that there is a kinder and gentle way to train a dog. I just want to thank you and Sylvia once again.

Hello again Sylvia, Laura had just read the emails you and I had written one another. We both appreciate your advice in little Rocky's sinus problem AND excellent training. Laura and I would love to help you out any way we can in regards to the quotes for the IPDTA, we would be honoured if you used them. Again, thank you so much for being a wonderful instructor and we'll let you know how Rocky is doing from time to time. If you need any class member input don't hesitate to email me.
Thankfully Yours,
Wayne Evans and Laura McCarthy
Hello again, this is Wayne Evans...Rocky's dad lol. I thought I might email you and see how things were going. Is the new boston terrier doing as well as our little Rocky in class? He's a smart little pooch, Laura and I really liked your class and wish we were closer to take some more. We learned a great deal and are extremely happy she enrolled him with Delightful Dogs. Here are a couple of pictures of Rocky just for fun, and thanks again for the wonderful class. We recommend Delightful Dogs very highly to our pet owning friends.
Yours Truly,
Wayne Evans and Laura McCarthy
I would like to commend Sylvia on her loving and devoted attention to the needs of our 4 legged friends. I would highly nominate her for any and all awards possible to bestow on a person of her skills and qualifications. She guided Tucker ( my 7 month old blonde lab) and myself gently and efficiently from a wild and unruly life style, to one of calm controlled living. I called Sylvia on her business line after having a very stressful day with Tucker, it was after business hours, but I think the pleading tone in my voice tugged at her compassionate side and she called me back that same night. Tucker has come along way in the 6 week coarse we are completing tonight, as confirmed by friends Tucker transformation has been amazing. He even came on a first call the other night when a skunk had wandered into our backyard and we needed him in immediately. We are enrolling Tucker in Sylvia's level 2 class because level one was so rewarding. Thank you Sylvia.

Dear Sylvia
I would like to thank-you for everything you have done for Sasha and our family. I really don't think that I would have made it through the first couple of months with all my hair in tact if it were not for you.
When we first brought Sasha home I did not realize how different Huskies are and how much work they take. You would spend hours pretty well everyday with me on the phone talking me through every thing, and giving me suggestions to make mine and Sasha's life easier. I never would have thought that it would be as easy as giving her her own toy box.
I would like you to know that I appreciate everything that you did for us . Not only do you love and care for your dogs but for every other dog as well.
You are such an amazing person, I don't know how you find the time to take such good care of your dogs, and teach all of the classes you do in a week, plus be married, its hard enough just to be married and have one dog to worry about. (L.O.L)
I looked forward to every class we had together, because you made learning fun, which made me want to keep going. it was never one of those things when you say to your self "oh god I have to go to puppy class". I don't think I would have had such a great experience with some one else. I really enjoyed all of the little jokes you made, the whole experience was wonderful. I will continue to recommend you to anyone who is considering taking classes with their dogs.
So once again thank-you for everything, and just being you.
Julie & Sasha (Siberian Husky)
I would like to lend my support for Sylvia Gottschalk's various nominations for 2006. I recently completed Sylvia's Level One Puppy class at Delightful Dogs. At our first class I was immediately impressed by Sylvia's passion for what she does and the genuine care and attention for the puppies in our class. Sometimes as an owner of one excited puppy I felt overwhelmed by the attention and patience required and I was in awe of Sylvia's natural patience and love for all the puppies in the class. I was grateful and relieved for Sylvia's understanding. It was wonderful to interact with Sylvia's own beautiful dogs and to see her love for them. A few years ago I attended a puppy class in another part of the province with another yellow Lab and there is no comparison between what I learned then with what Sylvia taught us at Delightful Dogs. I was blown away by Sylvia's knowledge, understanding and one-on-one attention with her smaller size classes. I came home each week full of excitement with Sylvia's words of encouragement and ready to continue the training at home. I like the way she structured her classes and somehow by the end of our six weeks I knew that my puppy (and me!) actually learned valuable, life saving lessons. Amazingly a young excited Lab can pay attention and learn! Now that it has been over a month since our last puppy class I continue use the training learned at Delightful Dogs. I look forward to continuing lessons with Sylvia in her Level Two class in September.

Hi Sylvia,
I couldn't find the email you had sent me, so I'll just send you one to let you know that I would be thrilled to see Bella's picture on your website. You have my full permission to use it!
I also wanted to thank you so much for being such a wonderful teacher and person. Raising a puppy is something very new to both Donny and myself (I've had dogs but usually from the humane society), and I can't express enough gratitude for you always being there for me to call with concerns or questions. I can tell that you so genuinely love all of the dogs that you work with and that is a huge part of what made our experience with Delightful Dogs so wonderful.
Donny and I have recommended your classes already to several friends because of the wonderful care and help you've given to us. I really do appreciate everything you've done for us - it was a little sad leaving last night after watching all our puppies grow and change so much together. I love the fact that we got to know your dogs as well - it's exciting to get an idea of how Bella is going to look when she's older. It just touched my heart so much to see her playing with the full-grown huskies! We definitely want to get another one in the next year or so to keep Bella company.
We will be back for level 2 for sure and I can see myself getting into the activi-joring class as well. I would love to get her into the sledding in the future but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself!!
So anyway I just wanted to thank you again for always being there, Bella is growing into a wonderful little girl and we owe so much of that to you. We'll see you again in level 2 :)
Take care, and enjoy the summer (even though I know you'd rather be sledding in the winter!),
Jennifer Prendergast & Bella (Siberian Husky)
Dear Sylvia,
This is a gift to say thanks! Yes. Thanks for all the things you'd expect...things like being an excellent trainer and things like caring for each dog that walks through your door as if it's your own and things like spending countless hours on the phone problem solving. You excel at what you do. But this is also thanks for something else.
In my world, there are very few people who understand my love and devotion to animals in general. Dogs in particular and my Boxers specifically. I became discouraged sometimes feeling that people think me strange. Many think I need to get my priorities straight.
You've helped me stop pretending, stop making excuses and to enjoy who I am and how I was made.
Often when I feel alienated, I think "Sylvia gets it! Sylvia understands!" THANKS FOR GETTING IT! You have no idea how much that means.
Name Withheld, (Boxer)
"Thought I would also share a story with you. On Saturday my husband and I and the boys thought it would be a wonderful day to walk, walk and walk. On our excursion there is a path we take with lots of trees which also gives us the freedom to really run with the boys. Man can Caesar run. My husband had Caesar and me with Winston. While walking the path the branch grabbed onto Caesar's leash and it unlatched from the collar. Caesar still in the run mode ran quite aways. But during this run he looks to the side where he was trained to look and no one there. Caesar stops looks side to side turns around and sees where we were. There were young drivers testing on the run
near where we were.
I gave Caesar the come command and he ran as fast as he could to me stopped and sat in front of me. Sylvia, I had tears in my eyes. It was the most scary feeling I had when he was loose from us yet it was the most wonderful feeling when he did the commands he was taught. You are the first I thought of since it was your expertise that helped us train or teach Caesar. Winston during this time sat on the ground as quiet as could be waiting for his buddy to return. I just cannot express the feeling that surrounded us at that moment when Caesar returned to us. Teaching both the boys and me and the family have saved Caesar's life at the particular time. The ending of this story could have been drastic but instead it ended up great.
Thank you for being you and training the boys."
Regards,
Denise Elizuk, Caesar (deaf Sheltie) & Winston (Sheltie)
"I have taken several classes at a different place as well as some private training and although satisfied, we are totally amazed and pleased with the way that Sylvia actually runs her classes. She has an excellent rapport with all of the dogs and the owners and genuinely loves the dogs. It is very apparent in her down-to-earth and sensible manner. She is tremendously encouraging with the owners and never makes anyone feel as if they have failed. Each week she reminds us how far we have come, and the progress we have made, which is extremely important for all of us. The small size of her classes is an indication of the excellent individual attention that we all receive. We have just completed level 2 with our 16-month Newfy and will be signing up for level 3 as well as in the spring."

" I would like to vote for Sylvia Gottschalk, I like her method of training and the way she treats the animals. I am very impressed with how far my dog has come in such a short time."

" Hello Sylvia, I Just wanted to send you a picture of our wonderful Puppy Tasha...she's been doing really well. We've continued with her training at home, and she's been an absolute joy to have, along with her older (but much smaller) sister Chevi. Thank you very much for teaching us to teach our dogs to be respectful, loving companions. Our friends always compliment how well behaved and gentle our dogs are...many thanks and hats off to you and your techniques."

Dear Sylvia,
I am writing this letter to offer my sincerest thanks for everything that you have done for me and for Scout.
When Robert and I picked up a four-month-old Scout from the Humane Society in March of 2004, it never once occurred to us that we were embarking on what would prove at times to be a very emotional and difficult journey. I say with complete sincerity that your presence in Scout’s life, and therefore in ours, made all the difference.
As you know, Scout has had her fair share of “challenging issues”. For our part, we were utterly inexperienced dog people who brought only commitment and love to the project. What we lacked was knowledge, skill and the confidence to believe that things could improve when worked on properly. You gave us the tools to become better dog trainers and to have faith that we, and Scout, were up to the challenges with which we were presented.
Every time we had a little setback, you – a virtual stranger to me! – were the first person I thought to contact. It was always reassuring to have your analysis of a given event and to be provided with concrete strategies for moving forward. When you stated in Puppy Class and in Level 2 Obedience that you would be there for the life of our dogs, you actually meant it! The amount of time that you offered to me – be it over email, on the phone or in person – was absolutely remarkable. In addition to being an effective teacher, you were, for me, an exceptionally compassionate, friendly and kind voice of reason.
What I have really come to appreciate about your approach to dog training is that it is very much about teaching us, the humans, how to understand and respect dog culture and dog communication strategies. Knowing something about how dogs understand their worlds and their relationships, I learned, is the basis of dog-training. I feel
decidedly well-trained by you!
Over the last many months, my friends and colleagues have listened to their fair share of stories about the trials and tribulations – and the terrific joys! – of living with Scout. They have also heard a great deal about Delightful Dogs and Sylvia Gottschalk; I have sung your praises far and wide.
I would like to add that all of you at the Canine Centre – Norma Jeanne, Christina and Charity included – have all exceeded my wildest expectations in terms of what a dog training facility might offer. My thanks to all of you.
I wish you every success in the future, Sylvia.
With warmest regards,
Dr. Eva Plach and Scout (Border Collie/Australian Shepherd X)
Hi! My name is Lexxe Neu. I am a 7 year old Rottweiler. I am writing this because I would like to nominate for the Awards Banquet, my dog trainer Sylvia Gottschalk for the Best Dog Trainer Ever. You probably would like to know my reasons, so I will tell you my story.
It all started 3 years ago at the Humane Society, where by soon to be mommy came into visit all the dogs. The dogs all talked about this lady that came in every day and brought special homemade treats and walked them. I do remember her looking at me and talking to me. She had the softest voice. One of the workers there came in and
this soft-voice lady pointed to me and said “I know that dog”. They informed her that she was wrong. You see the
place I came from used me for breeding and they must not have wanted me anymore because they never came back for me. I found out this soft-voice lady’s name was Linda. Everytime she spoke, I could her the gentle softness in her voice and I will always remember that. When she finally looked into my eyes and I in hers, we both feel in love.
Linda came back in the next day and talked to me and then we went for a walk together. Then she brought me back inside and left. I wanted her to take me home but she didn’t. What I didn’t know was that Linda was trying to adopt me. Oh wow, she was going to be my mommy! The next day, an older couple came in to look at me but the shelter workers had moved me. When they then found me, I heard them say to the worker that they wanted to buy me as a Christmas present for Linda. Whew as I was getting worried they were taking me before Linda came back. Then I realized what they really said and I was so excited I was trying to tell them “YES, YES, YES!!”.
The next day this older couple who ended up being Linda’s parents came in again with Linda….but then they left again. I was becoming very scared because I thought I was going to my new home with Linda. The next evening, Linda came and this time she had a pretty leash and collar for me. We left and went to her home….my new home! I was so happy and just wanted to be near her. This is where the fun began.
The first night at my new home was pretty scary. Everything was strange and there were these two cats named Abbie and Zowie that also lived there. I soon found out that Abbie was the boss, all 6lbs of her. Anways, back to my story. I could hear Linda who was now my mommy, on the phone. She was talking to her son. She was saying “No I won’t take her anywhere, I’ll stay around the building.” I was hoping she didn’t mean she was going to take me back. Then I found out it was only because I was in heat…AGAIN! The first night, Linda put me to bed in this so-called crate thing. I didn’t want to be in the Dog House. She insisted though and locked it. All I did that night was try to get out because I wanted to be near Linda. I ended up breaking the lock on it. Well the weekend went by and we all survived. That weekend my mommy also decided to name me Lexxe. I really liked that name. It sounded kinda French.
That Monday, I went to see my vet who my mommy called “Dr. Cheryl”. She was a really nice lady and I heard her tell my mommy that I was very skinny and that my boobies hung down almost to the floor. She also told my mommy that they may never go back up tight again and it was from me being bred so many times and having all those puppies. My mommy said she didn’t care and that she loved me anyway. The next thing she then told my mommy was that she had good news and bad news for her. Oh…oh….well the good news was that I wasn’t pregnant and the bad news was that I was in “full blown heat”. Then my mommy got angry and I thought that she was going to send me back but that wasn’t the case. My mommy was upset because they made a mistake at the shelter in what they had told her. Her son I guess told her he thought so too because of some of the ways I was acting.
So now I have to tell you more things. The shelter were mistaken again and told my mommy that I was dog-friendly. However, I didn’t know what to do with a dog. All I knew was how to protect them. I thought that you did that with all dogs, which with me meant that I hovered over them like I did with my puppies. Well I soon found out that it was a no-no. My poor mommy got so upset she didn’t know what to do. When I laid on top of another dog, the other dog would get upset and start to fight me. I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. All I knew was that I was sick of being bitten. The last straw for my mommy was when I was hovering over a dog and this dog tried fight me. So I then put my teeth & mouth on the back of her neck like I did with my puppies to stop them from being bad but when the other dog then tried to get away, I put a rip on the back of her neck.
I thought for sure then that my mommy was going to send me back or get rid of me. All she kept saying to me though was “Lexxe, I love you and I am going to teach you how to play”. Keep in mind that all these things had
taken place over the course of a year. Well when she said that, it was then one thing though I knew by now and that was that my mommy loved me, that my home was secure and I was here to stay no matter what.
This is now where Sylvia, my second saviour came into my life. My mommy phones Sylvia and left a message on her answering machine saying; “Hi! My name is Linda Neu and I own a Rotti named Lexxe. I would like you to help me teach her how to play”. Sylvia then called my mommy back and they talked. My mommy told her about my behaviour and my attitude. Sylvia and my mommy then set up an appointment to meet the next week. When I met Sylvia, I liked her immediately. She was very gentle. My mommy walked in with two leashes on me. One tied around her waist and one in her hand. Sylvia could not believe what she saw and said “what is that for”? My mommy replied that she didn’t want me going after her or any other dog. She had her dog very far away though in like a doggy office. They talked a little and then Sylvia said to my mommy that she would have her walking me with one finger on the leach and playing with other dogs. I remember my mom laughing & saying “YEAH RIGHT”.
Well one and a half year later I can write this. Sylvia worked with me and my mommy every week. First it was just my mommy and me with Sylvia. Then she started having her dog in that office watching. I wasn’t too sure about this but Sylvia gave me the confidence that I could do it. First we were walking on the opposite side of the room so I could get used to seeing the other dog. Then we’d walk on opposite sides of the room where Sylvia would walk her dog and mommy would walk me. I also was learning some obedience things each time to help.
Every week my mommy and I went off to school. We also had homework that my mommy insisted that we do. Sometimes I am sure that my mommy and Sylvia were discouraged but they never stopped loving me and helping me to improve. Over time we got closer to each other passing each other nicely. My next step was meeting then a dog face to face. That is when I met Shadow that soon became my best dog friend. The first time we met, my mommy was so nervous. Sylvia still made it safe as we had to wear these funny things around our noses and Sylvia kept telling her that I was ready to start to play with a dog. Anyways, I met Shadow and we started to run and play and I wasn’t even getting on top like I used to. We were running and jumping and wiggling and waggling and barking. I was so excited. Sylvia was there the whole time directing me and helping me, cause I wasn’t 100% sure of what to do every time. Well over time, we didn’t even have to wear those silly things on our noses anymore and played all the time. We then would start to play each week for the first bit and then we would have to do some obedience work. Then one day Sylvia told my mommy that I was ready to play with her puppy Mishka and Mishka’s half brother Thunder. Mommy right away said no but Sylvia said “just trust me and trust Lexxe and that Lexxe would do fine” and I did! We now continue to play each week for 15 minutes and then always do work. A year and a half later I got a graduation certificate for doggy aggression (which Sylvia called something else), level one, level two, level three and now I’m starting Tricks class. It’s so much fun!
So basically I want to say that I owe my life to two very special people. My mommy and Sylvia. My mommy loves me unconditionally and all she wants for me is to have a full-filled life that includes other dogs. My mommy is still very cautious about who I play with because she was once attached just before she got me by another dog and had to get 29 stitches in her arm. So when she sees other dogs running towards us, she tends to panic still which in turn makes me a little nervous and on guard because I don’t want anything to happen to her. Then I see her look at me & remember and relax and we trot off happy again.
Sylvia is a very special lady who helped my mom and me to overcome a very serious problem. If it wasn’t for Sylvia, who knows what could have happened to me. I know my mommy loves me and would never give me up but with Sylvia’s determination, kindness and love, my life extended itself. I have now traveled to the Arctic Circle, Windsor and Sauble. Anywhere my mommy goes, I go along. We are a team but without Sylvia this never would have happened. I was mad and angry at the world and Sylvia showed me that the world is a happy place to trust. You Judges may not realize how my life has changed for the better but everyone else does. This is the reason I nominate Sylvia for the BEST DOG TRAINER IN THE WORLD! I love her very much. I am only one dog of many that she has helped. I know she has helped many more dogs but she is just too quiet to admit it so I am doing it for her. YAH, SYLVIA, YAH SYLVIA…THE BEST DOG TRAINER IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!

"I was sooooooo thrilled with Lucy this evening. Her entry was extremely admirable :-) The comparison to her entering a class of dogs at another school last September/October, is unbelievable.
We owe her comfort zone to your teachings and philosophy. We are so grateful. Thanks very much. Although Lucy has "lots" of room for improvement, her state of mind and ability to focus and relax is very rewarding. We are so happy for her :-)
Lucy is an amazing little girl and you are helping us bring out the best in her. Thanks Sylvia, for your devotion to your vocation and love of animals. YOU are amazing !"

Hi Sylvia
I just wanted to tell you how much Harley and I have enjoyed the classes with you. We have come a very long ways since last November. Harley was so small and I was so inexperienced. I can't believe he is the same dog. I am very, very proud of his progress. No matter how he has performed in class, I know that in the real word he is just awesome. He is now walking at heel without a leash for a half hour with me every morning. He knows he is in training mode and does not stray. I use the thong you gave us if he starts to move and I actually carry the shaker can in my right hand as a gentle reminder for any problems. We both enjoy our morning outings, such a pleasure to walk with him.
Even if he never does the drop and recall for you, he has done it many, many times in the driveway and the backyard and his stays are getting better and better when I leave the room. I use the down often when customers are here and I need him to be quiet. The stand and stay is coming in very useful also. I am working on teaching
him the word stand on it's own without treats or hand movements. Last week you were very generous with marks for us and I appreciate it. I didn't really feel that he had passed, but since then we have worked very hard and now I feel he has earned the passing grade. Thanks for your encouragement.
Harley and I will not be competing with the heeling etc at a higher level. It has been a lot of fun so far and I want to keep it that way. He is very interested in agility and therapy, so I think we will pursue that avenue. I look forward to therapy May, 2005. Please make sure you are in touch with us when you start booking this class.
The whole point of this letter is say Thankyou. You are a very hard worker, a caring person and are giving your business everything you have. It shows. You care so much about the puppies and watching them grow and learn. Harley and I could not have succeeded the way we have without you. You are always eager to offer extra
classes if anyone is having problems. You have also made it fun and I will be sorry to see then end of the last class. No matter where we go from here, I will always remember what you have taught us along with the lessons........make it fun and keep him safe. The last is especially important to me. We have an excellent base to work from, Thanks again. If you ever need us for anything please give us a call.
Sincerely yours
Marlene and Harley Swider (Border Collie Cross)

5/5 Star Review on Google - Sylvia is a gem amongst dog trainers. Personally she helped me with my sweet girl Lexi. Lexi (my dog) has always been my heart and soul. Hi Sylvia,
Cora, myself, and of course Freddie, just wanted to thank you and Jenny for a wonderful class and of course the tasty treats (Freddie went bonkers for his!).

We hope you have a restful, fun holiday season. And we hope to see you in the New Year!

Hi Sylvia,
We just wanted to reach out and say a huge THANK YOU for such a marvellous puppy level one experience!! Edie is much better behaved than we expected her to be by this age. It's been a real pleasure seeing how her mind works and how she learns.

Hi Sylvia ,
Just wanted to let you know we got Remi's certificate in the mail.

She understands the dynamics of the canine/human relationship, and she helps the human become the best companion to their canine. I wish I could give more then a five star rating.

"I feel it was more than expected. Very thorough explanations with each maneuver. Sylvia is excellent with dogs and knows the background of each breed."
Wendy Keller & Harley (German Shepherd/Siberian Husky Cross)
"Whistle comes much more quickly and quietly when called. I would recommend your private training, as I believe Whistle is a much better behaved dog since completing the basic obedience training."
Elizabeth Novakoski & Whistle (Long-Haired Chihuahua)
"The training was beyond my expectations, the way in which Sylvia instructed me, each and every time I had great success. My puppy was house-trained in one weekend. Walking and behavior exercises were also successful, and Sylvia had a lot of great tips. I would and have recommended Delightful dogs with complete trust."
Cathy Ferguson & Bailey (Bichon Frise)
"I am so bonded with my dog from the results of this class. I leaned so much. My do Sheila was so different before and now she is trained well I also liked how I was given solutions on problems I had with Sheila. I would really recommend this class for any and every dog and owner. Thanks so much. You get lot's of help with things that need to be improved and advice. Awesome class. Thank you again!"
Tina Casey & Sheila (Border Collie/Jack Russell Terrier Cross)
"The training suggestions provided were easily implemented and a great way of POSITIVE TRAINING!. I have given pamphlets and cards to several friends with new puppies, and I believe they will definitely benefit from any of Sylvia's courses."
Mandy Bradbury & Milo (American Bulldog)
"Positive training is the best method and I feel it was successful. I have recommended Sylvia and I always will."
